FBR café
A specialty coffee venue and research lab
FBR cafe is a concept cafe that takes its cues from the design of the Nintendo Game Boy, and the collective dream of what we thought future technology would look like in the 90s: best represented by films like Tron: Legacy and 3001: A Laced Oddessy.
These pieces of media became the backbone of the design stimuli for the venue.
The point of it all was to make the cafe stand out, and to encourage the discussion within the cafe to be about technology.
Before I opened this cafe, I was a software engineer, and the entire time I was building this I had no intention of discarding my previous occupation. I knew somehow this would become a new formation for it. And I was right.
Running a cafe with a systems mindset led me to a lot of insights I imagine most cafe owners realize to some degree, but don't have the background to dream about how these insights could be used to make good things better.
